Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which went on for more than two hours. The meeting was also attended, among others, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Following the meeting, India downgraded diplomatic relations with Pakistan and made a number of stern decisions following the Pahalgam terror attack. These include the expulsion of Pakistani military officials, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, and closure of the Attari land border crossing with immediate effect.
These measures were resolved a day following the attack in a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The CCS cleared five specific retaliatory measures, instructed security personnel to remain on high alert, and promised to prosecute the attackers.
The two nations will also cut their diplomatic personnel in each other’s high commissions from 55 to 30 by May 1. Pakistani citizens will no longer be permitted entry into India on the SAARC visa exemption scheme, and those who are already present in India on such visas need to depart within 48 hours.
