IPL 2025, KKR vs LSG Match Preview: Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants will seek to carry on their winning run when they play against each other in Kolkata on Tuesday, April 8.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match No.21 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, April 8 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The match was initially slated to be held on April 6 but was rescheduled following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the deployment of staff in the city during Ram Navami celebrations.
KKR vs LSG: The Knight Riders will be full of confidence after giving the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) their largest defeat by 80 runs in Kolkata. Following KKR’s humiliating defeat to the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, mentor Dwayne Bravo spoke about using the ‘smarts of the game’ instead of being aggressive.
KKR played with loads of maturity against SRH, scoring a good 200 for six. Though they lost both their openers in rapid succession, they did not panic. Later, their bowlers came to the rescue to bowl out the Orange Army for 120 in 16.4 overs. From the bottom of the table, KKR climbed to fifth in the table.
The Super Giants, meanwhile, have also experienced their own share of rises and falls. But the fact that they pipped MI in their last game in Lucknow should hold them in good form. With bat, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh have been their go-getters.
But worries abound about the batting of their captain Rishabh Pant, who has managed 19 runs in four matches at an average of 4.75. In the bowling front, Shardul Thakur, who replaced Mohsin Khan, has been their best bowler with seven wickets. Leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi has also performed creditably.
HEAD-TO-HEAD: KKR vs LSG
The Super Giants and Knight Riders have played 5 games after first encountering each other in 2022. LSG are ahead in the head-to-head tally 3-2. But it’s KKR, who have won both their matches in 2024. In Kolkata, each team has won one game each.

The Knight Riders chose Moeen Ali over Spencer Johnson in their encounter against the Sunrisers. Since the next match is a day-night game, the Knights can keep Moeen, who can prove to be a useful spin-bowling asset. The Super Giants can consider playing an additional spinner in the guise of Shahbaz Ahmed with Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi being their primary choices.

Conditions of Pitch: KKR vs LSG
The Kolkata average in the IPL is 169 from 95 games, with 56 victories for chasing sides.
The average score in day-night games is slightly down to 165 from 23 games. 14 games have been won by chasing sides.
As the game will predominantly be played under lights, spinners will benefit a lot. Dew might not play an important role and run-scoring might not be that easy.
